the  boat

Caribbean Soul is a 1995 Moody 44, with a double headsail rig, featuring a Furlex Genoa Furler and a Kemp Mast with in-mast mainsail furling.  All of her lines are adjusted from the cockpit, making her safe and secure to handle.

Designed by Bill Dixon, she has a modern hullform with a rounded bottom, a modified Scheel Keel with a flat bulb and shallow draft, long water-line, and a partially skeg-hung rudder.

A totally hand-laid hull using isopthalic resins, it resists osmostic blistering, and meets Lloyd’s 100A Specifications.  Numerous longitudinal stringers and bulkheads tabbed to the hull and through-bolted make for maximum rigidity.

Built in the UK by Marine Projects, they use a mold which breaks in half longitudinally instead of popping hulls out of female molds.  Each hull remains in the mold throughout the entire build process. Only after interiors are complete and decks secured to the hull flange are the molds removed, insuring a perfect match with assemblies and tight tolerances.

She features 2 Garmin GPS Chartplotters, a Raytheon GPS, a Furuno Radar, an ICOM VHF Radio and a Standard Horizon VHF, an Iridium SatPhone (for communications with parents and kids), an AIS Transceiver, an ACR EPIRB, and Raymarine Autopilot 7000, Speed, Depth, and Wind instruments.

Lattitudes & Attitudes Magazine featured our lovely boat in the January, 2011 issue.  Her name came from Jimmy Buffet’s song, “Migration”, in which the chorus sings:

“I’ve got a Caribbean Soul, that’s hard to control,

And some Texas hidden here in my heart.”

Yep!  That’s us!  We love Texas and will miss it.
